The Group was formed in 1999 with our mission statement as its goal. The name Ceara taken from St. Ceara who is the patron Saint of Aughnamullen and whose feast day is 5th May. She had a Convent in Lisdoonan and was associated with St. Tiarnach in Clones. Her headquarters was nearby Killaheir (near Ballytrain). The name Ceara means "Forward thinking and Progressive".
In our ten years so far we have run many courses, produced a video of the local area, visited many interesting places, such as Aras an Uachtaran, Dublin Castle, Kilmainham Gaol, Croke Park, Hillsborough Castle, Belfast and many more. We have actively supported our local GAA Club, Aughnamullen Sarsfields. We are very proud of our association with them in establishing a walking track.
